Doors Open Day at Stills

Saturday, 23 September 2017
11am - 6pm

Join us on for our Doors Open Day where you can take part in free tasters and tours throughout the building including;

Darkroom printing
Discover the magic of analogue printing in Stills traditional darkrooms.
Using negatives depicting images of the Old Town you will make your own prints to take home on the day. Working under the red light you'll witness the images slowly appear in the developer - just like in the movies!

Animation with Photoshop
The range of things you can do with Photoshop is mindblowing so we're not even going to attempt to show you the full package (we've got courses that do that if you're interested). Instead we're going to show you how you can easily make short animations by drawing on top of stock footage.

Studio Photography
We'll have our studio lights and back drop set up in a cosy 'photobooth' where you can take turns posing for and snapping portraits. Camera shy? No problem - we have a range of disguises to ease the discomfort! Our mini-printer will be set up for you to take a print of your mastepiece away with you.

Exhibition Tours 11am & 2pm
We will be providing guided tours of our current exhibtion at 11am and 2pm.
Nudes Never Wear Glasses is Kate Davis' first solo exhibition in Edinburgh and has been created especially for the context of Stills. Bringing together a new photographic series with drawings and recent moving image works, Nudes Never Wear Glasses includes the first gallery presentation of her Margaret Tait Award film Charity (2017).

The tasters will run from 11am - 5pm. No need to book, just drop in at a time that suits you. If we're busy there may be a short wait, but teas and coffees will be available in our library space so you can wait in comfort.

Suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
