Martin Parr was born in Epsom, UK, in 1952. He studied photography at Manchester Polytechnic from 1970-73 and since then has worked on numerous photographic projects. Over the years, he has developed an international reputation for his innovative imagery, his oblique approach to social documentary, and his input to photographic culture within the UK and abroad. Parr’s photographs, as well as his own collection of prints and objects by other international photographers, have been exhibited widely in prestigious venues around the world. He has published over 90 books of his own work and this Autumn he will publish books on Oxford University and his Scottish work. Parr became a full member of the Magnum Photographic Cooperative in 1994. He was Professor of Photography at The University of Wales Newport from 2004-12 and was appointed visiting Professor of Photography at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland in 2013. In April 2017, Parr was awarded the Sony World Photography Award for Outstanding Contribution to Photography.
