The Migrant Image: The Art and Politics of Documentary during Global Crisis is the title of the recently published book by T. J. Demos, one of the leading critics of politically engaged art in the UK.
In this talk, Demos will present a paper addressing ways in which visual representation can intervene in productive and positive ways in debates about migration in the EU and UK.  This will be followed by a conversation between Demos and artist Valentina Bonizzi, on the visual representation of the migrant today.

The event is programmed with the exhibition 'Migration Stories' by Bonizzi, currently on show at the National Portrait Gallery and continues to explore the issues realised by the 'Image-Identity' series (2013 to 2015) which includes projects 'Second Sight' (April 2013), 'A Thousand of Him Scattered' (April 2014) and 'Scotland Migration' at Stills.

A Scottish National Portrait event organised in partnership with Stills.
