Rebecca Marr and Sarah Neely on Gunnie Moberg and Margaret Tait

Rebecca Marr will explore the creative space of Orkney’s shore through the work of photographer Gunnie Moberg while Sarah Neely’s talk will explore the significance of Tait’s photography in relation to her later work as a a moving image artist.

Rebecca Marr is a photographic artist living in Orkney. She spent 3 years working with the artist's collection during the establishment of the Gunnie Moberg Archive at Orkney Library & Archive.

Sarah Neely is a writer and lecturer at Stirling University. Neely's work currently focuses on the areas of film history and memory, and artists' moving image. Recent publications include Margaret Tait: Poems, Stories and Writings (Carcanet, 2012) and Between Categories: The Films of Margaret Tait - Portraits, Poetry, Sound and Place (Peter Lang, 2016).

New Photography Collecting in Scotland, a Talk by Alex Hamilton

Alexander Hamilton is Chair of the Scottish Society for the History of Photography (SSHoP) and part of the Editorial Team that delivers the highly acclaimed publication - Studies in Photography. He is a collector of photographs and a practising artist who has exhibited his work internationally.

Hamilton will talk about collecting photography in Scotland and why it is important to the sector that a new strategy and approach to collecting photography is developed.

Artist talk & Screening: François Bucher

Colombian artist François Bucher's documentary Haute Surveillance, currently on show at Stills, reflects on a violent rupture in the everyday life of a classroom when fiction bled into fact. This talk will offer a glimpse into Bucher's wider practice which focuses on  a range of subjects including the geographies of power, the politics of representation and the ethical questions posed by the mediums of cinema and television.
