Stills is delighted to present the 2006 winners of the prestigious Jerwood Photography Awards. Organised by Edinburgh-based Portfolio Magazine, these annual awards identify emerging photographers whose work demonstrates originality and excellence.

The Jerwood Photography Awards are open to UK-based artists of any age who have recently graduated from visual art degree courses. Selected artists are offered a unique combination of opportunities to help them establish their careers including publication in Portfolio Magazine and a series of exhibitions throughout the country.

Paul Winch-Furness The Master Plan
Named after the two-volume document for the creation of Milton Keynes, The Master Plan looks at the city to highlight the complexities of urban planning. In order to measure the plan’s success, the images are distorted to present a view similar to the original architect’s model.

Zoe Hatziyannaki Regeneration Stories
Photographed around two of the best known regenerated areas of London, Hatziyannaki’s work captures the idealization of an urban space, juxtaposed by enlarged portraits of bystanders that distort the everyday scene to one of threatening surveillance.

Peter Oetzmann Picture This
Using large painted backdrops, Peter Oetzmann recreates notions of English landscapes. Referencing a number of sources from the Renaissance to early photography, Oetzmann invites the viewer in to share the obvious illusion of the image.

Indre Serpytyte A State of Silence
This series of striking still-life images relates to Lithuanian-born photographer Indre Serpytyte’s investigation into her fathers death; claiming a state cover-up, she searches for answers into the incident.
