Upcoming Friends Events 
Rebecca Marr and Sarah Neely on Gunnie Moberg and Margaret Tait, Mon 20th August 2018, 6pm -8pm
Rebecca Marr will explore the creative space of Orkney’s shore through the work of photographer Gunnie Moberg while Sarah Neely’s talk will explore the significance of Tait’s photography in relation to her later work as a a moving image artist.
Rebecca Marr is a photographic artist living in Orkney. She spent 3 years working with the artist's collection during the establishment of the Gunnie Moberg Archive at Orkney Library & Archive. https://gunniemobergarchive.wordpress.com/
Sarah Neely is a writer and lecturer at Stirling University. Neely's work currently focuses on the areas of film history and memory, and artists' moving image. Recent publications include Margaret Tait: Poems, Stories and Writings (Carcanet, 2012) and Between Categories: The Films of Margaret Tait - Portraits, Poetry, Sound and Place (Peter Lang, 2016).

Artist Talk: Tait & Style and Gunnie Moberg Tue 21st Aug 2018, 6pm - 8pm
Ingrid Tait, founder of Orkney fashion-textile company Tait & Style, is coming to Stills to give a talk about her friend Gunnie Moberg and the groundbreaking fashion photography they created together on the Islands between 1990 - 2007.

Introduction to our photography darkrooms Sat 26 Aug 2017, 2pm
Situated beneath the gallery on the lower ground floor are our comprehensive darkrooms, including Scotland's only open access dry-to-dry colour print processor. This introductory session with one of Stills’ technicians will help you get to grips with the basics of this magical medium.

Start your day off with coffee, croissants and culture. Stills Director Ben Harman takes our Friends on a guided tour of Kate Davis’ solo exhibition, ‘Nudes Never Wear Glasses.’ 

Robin Gillanders' Studio Visit Friday 15th December, 2017 4pm
We are so excited to offer our Friends an opportunity to take a look 'behind the scenes' at Robin Gillanders' practice with this special studio visit. Robin's studio is based in the New Town. Friends are invited to meet either at Stills at 3:30pm where a group will walk over together, or at the studio directly - an email with the address will be sent to everyone that signs up.

Late Opening and Director’s Tour of The Archive of Modern Conflict  Tues 6 Feb 2018, 7pm  

The Archive of Modern Conflict (AMC) is an organisation and independent publisher which holds a growing collection of over 8 million photographs collected from diverse sources all around the world. Stills' upcoming exhibition, Collected Shadows, curated by the AMC’s Director Timothy Prus, is an enigmatic presentation of 200 photographs from this archive, offering a rare glimpse into these extraordinary holdings. Join Stills' Director Ben Harman for an out-of-hours tour of this major new Hayward Touring exhibition and find out more about this exceptional collection of images.

New Photography Collecting in Scotland, a Talk by Alex Hamilton Fri 16 February 2018 

Alexander Hamilton is Chair of the Scottish Society for the History of Photography (SSHoP) and part of the Editorial Team that delivers the highly acclaimed publication - Studies in Photography. He is a collector of photographs and a practising artist who has exhibited his work internationally. Hamilton will talk about collecting photography in Scotland and why it is important to the sector that a new strategy and approach to collecting photography is developed.

Kevin McCollum Artist Tour Sun 3 Jun 2018, 3pm

A special artist led tour of our next Projects 18 exhibition and The Edinburgh Grand by Kevin McCollum. Kevin documents large-scale city centre developments in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Over the last two years he has been making images of The Edinburgh Grand on St Andrew's Square. A selection of works made for this project will be exhibited at Stills, while others will be shown in the public spaces around The Edinburgh Grand. Kevin will take us on a tour of both spaces, explaining his working processes and what attracts him to working on sites in a state of flux.
