Business Development Manager (Fixed Term, Part-Time)

Stills is seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to lead on initiatives that will make an essential contribution to organisational development. 

Stills was established in 1977 and is based on Cockburn Street in the heart of Edinburgh. We are a photography gallery, with learning and production facilities. We provide public access to opportunities that enable the advancement, discovery, enjoyment and understanding of photography. 

This is a busy and exciting time for Stills. In 2017 we are delivering an ambitious programme for our 40th anniversary year and planning activities that will achieve the vision and purpose set out in our 2018-21 business plan. 

Following a period of research and consultancy we have identified a number of potential new business initiatives that require further development and implementation. We anticipate these will ultimately provide us with greater organisational and financial sustainability. We are now seeking a highly experienced individual to develop, activate and manage these initiatives and, working with the Director, staff and Board, play a leading role in new income generation.

Outline of key duties:

  • Design and implementation of a members’ and patrons’ scheme
  • Research and development of new income streams for the organisation
  • Identifying and approaching potential corporate partners and sponsors
  • Supporting the Director with the identification and completion of grant applications
  • Development of a fundraising plan
  • Completing written and verbal reports and a fundraising plan


  • Experience of business development, fundraising, preparation and management of project budgets 
  • An interest and commitment to developing ideas specific to Stills’ wider potential within the photography / visual arts / charitable sector
  • Ability to manage projects, work to deadlines and enroll others in the mission and its delivery
  • Experience of audience and market development, and communications
  • An entrepreneurial drive
  • Excellent communication skills

Contract: Fixed Term for 6 months. Working days are typically Monday - Friday however the post-holder may, on occasion, need to work evenings and occasional weekends. Working pattern to be agreed upon appointment.

Salary and Hours: £9,600, Part-Time, 3 days per week (6 month contract). Based on FTE £32,000 (per annum, pro rata)
