The GreenRoom artist’s commission

Deadline: Saturday 9 March 2019 at midday

Stills, in collaboration with PYRUS Botanicals, are delighted to announce a new artist’s commission opportunity. An artist will be selected to spend time developing work at PYRUS’s walled garden on the outskirts of Edinburgh whilst also having full access to Stills’ production facilities.

The commission will culminate in an exhibition at Stills from 13-21 April 2019 as part of the GreenRoom project. Taking place during the Edinburgh International Science Festival and supported by Grow Wild, the GreenRoom is an installation and series of events drawing attention to the importance of native plants, wildflowers and urban growing.

The selected artist will receive:
• A fee of £500 towards research and development
• A travel allowance for visits to the PYRUS garden
• Funds for materials and production costs
• Full access to Stills’ equipment and production facilities, including analogue darkrooms and a digital suite, for the duration of the project.

Project timescales:
• Development and production of work to be undertaken between 12 March – 7 April.
• Installation period for the GreenRoom at Stills: 8-12 April
• GreenRoom open to the public: 13-21 April

The commissioned artwork is expected to be a response to the specific environment of PYRUS’s walled garden. There will be opportunity to learn about local and seasonal botanical material, native plants, insects, wildlife and approaches to bringing nature into urban spaces. We are particularly interested in hearing from artists and photographers at an early stage in their career who use photography and/or moving image in their practice.

Please send:
• A CV or statement on your work.
• No more than 8 images of your work and/or a link to your work online.
• A statement of no more than 500 words on why you would like to undertake this commission.

Send your submission to:
Deadline for submissions: Saturday 9 March at midday.
