Working with high school students from around Edinburgh, Stills and the National Museum of Scotland provided a workshop for pupils to explore the creative and technical aspects of fashion photography, inspired by the stunning backdrop and costume collection at the National Museum of Scotland on Chamber Street.

This project ran in 2011 and will run again in October 2012.

The Workshops

Week One

Using the museum exhibition as an inspirational backdrop, participants examined and experimented with techniques used on photographic fashion shoots incorporating the preparation and installation of portable studio strobes, the use of digital SLR cameras and directing the model in a variety of set-ups concentrating on composition, lighting, integration of environmental props and creative approach.

Week Two

Participants will used Stills’ digital suite to post-process images shot in the museum during the previous session. Participants will select their best shots, getting an in-sight to the benefits and powers of image post-production.

The Exhibition

Following the project all work was exhibited in the museum for a period of two weeks allowing pupils the opportunity to display their images in the stunning Chamber Street building.
