Composition – the way that we organise a photograph – is one of the most creative opportunities for making strong images, but it is one that many people struggle with. Throughout the history of the medium, photographers have devised many different strategies for organising their pictures, and there are many techniques to explore and play with.
We will begin the day in Stills, looking at significant photographs and developing a vocabulary of composition and design.
We will then spend the remainder of the day out on the streets around Stills, identifying compositional opportunities and putting the new ideas into practice. It will hopefully change the way that you make pictures and view the world around you. However, we will not be revealing the ‘rules’ of composition – there aren’t any!
